Alicia Love
Stand-up Comic, Voice Over Talent, Radio PersonalityA bit surprised!
on Jul 05 in Comedy Shows, Improv tagged by AliciaI’ve been taking improv classes at The Improv Asylum in the North End for the last few months. I know some of you are probably thinking “Alicia, you do comedy all the time, why take a class?” I do Stand-Up all the time, there’s a big difference between the two. I’m on my own doing stand-up, if I screw up it’s on me! By doing improv I’m learning to play nice with others, sharing the stage, thinking quickly on my feet and doing all of this without a script. As off the cuff as most stand-up seems, it’s planned out, written and rewritten, worked and reworked until it gets the best laugh. Improv is fleeting, you put it out there and before you know it it’s gone. I’ve been really enjoying the classes, I’ve met some really great people and had the chance to learn from fantastic teachers! I just started level 3 and when you get to level 3 you have the opportunity to audition for “House Teams”. About 2 weeks ago they held auditions, I went thinking that this will be a good experience, auditioning for anything is always good practice. I went fully believing that I would not get on a House Team and it was just for the experience. I got my email yesterday and I made it onto a team!! I’m psyched, I’ll have the chance to work with people that have been doing Improv a lot longer than I have and I’m looking forward to learning from them. Rehearsals start July 12th and starting July 21st I’ll be performing at The Improv Asylum every Tuesday night…Yikes!
